Numerical investigation of oil injection in screw compressors

Oil injected screw compressors are commonly used in the industry. The position and amount of oil injection determined experimentally or by heat balances with an assumption uniform distribution compression chamber, which is not validated. This paper presents a study on within compressor chamber using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Volume (VOF) multiphase model. Prerequisite for CFD body fitted numerical mesh produced software SCORG. analysis was carried out newly designed 4–5 lobe combination. It found that injecting through two separate ports , one each rotor, has advantages compared to single port. conveniently positioned ensure even chamber. If same instead originally port maximum gas temperature could be reduced 30°–35 °C leading reduction specific power 1.8%. Techniques this can improve performance efficiency wide range compressors.
